Football: AIK’s supporters boycott the BP match

BP has chosen to move its home premiere from Grimsta to Tele 2 arena in order to receive a large audience against AIK.

But after AIK’s supporter groups called for a boycott in February, it seems to echo quite empty in the big arena.

To date, 4,000 tickets have been sold – of which only 182 were for the away section.

“We have respect”

– We respect that AIK’s supporter groups and members feel the need for this. We cannot try to persuade. But it is clear that it is sad not to have many people at the match, Peter Liljegren Appelquist, responsible for communication and marketing, to SVT Sport.

According to Liljegren Appelquist, there will be no big cost differences for the club when it comes to arranging matches on Tele 2 or their usual home arena Grimsta where they have a high rent. He tries to see the positive in the situation.

– We know that we are fewer supporters than AIK, which means that their supporters can be louder. Now we are in a situation where our supporters can be heard more. I just think it’s positive for us, although it’s not like I’m sitting and cheering that AIK supporters are boycotting.

Based on the VAR question

The boycott is based on the fact that BP went against other Stockholm clubs in the VAR issue during the Stockholm Football Association’s annual meeting. Even Halmstad supporters called for a boycott at the quarter-finals of the cup.

– It is AIK who have been the loudest. We haven’t realized that there will be more people boycotting us, but we’ll see.
