Foot Brazil coach Pia Sundhage thanked after World Cup failure

Pia Sundhage, coach of the Brazilian women’s team, leaves her post after the failure of the Auriverde in the World Cup this summer, announced Wednesday evening the Brazilian Football Federation (CBF). “In the coming days, the CBF will announce a new technical commission, which will open a new cycle with a view to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games and the 2027 Women’s World Cup,” the Federation said in a statement. Brazil, reigning South American champions, were eliminated in the group stage of the World Cup in New Zealand and Australia in early August. La Seleçao finished third in their group behind France and Jamaica, their worst result in the competition since 1995. Pia Sundhage, a Swedish national and aged 63, had been under contract since 2019 and until 2024. She would have had to lead the team to the Paris Olympics.
