As goods become more expensive and we get less in our wallets, shoplifting also increases, according to figures from Swedish Trade. The meat is most likely to be stolen and the loss has led to some stores choosing to remove precious meat from the shelves. Some traders go further than that to avoid theft.

– Some traders are now considering not even bringing in meat, because it costs them too much, says Nina Jelver, acting security manager at Swedish Trade.

According to Svensk Handel’s latest security barometer, the number of stores exposed to theft or shoplifting during a week has increased from 34 percent last spring to now 38 percent.
