And that’s a yes! Parliament validated this Tuesday the final adoption of the bill aimed at extending the exemption for the use of meal vouchers for products that are not immediately consumable.
The political crisis that has shaken the country for months will not have got the better of everything. Supported by all political groups, the bill aimed at extending the use of meal vouchers for all food shopping was validated this Tuesday, January 14, 2025 thanks to the favorable vote of senators. The French will therefore be able to continue to use restaurant vouchers in stores “for the purchase of food products that are not directly consumable”, such as flour or olive oil, for the next two years. , i.e. until December 31, 2026!
The measure had previously been voted by all the deputies on November 21, in the National Assembly, but the government’s censorship came to play spoilsport. Since January 1, 2025, due to the lack of a concrete legislative framework, brands have been improvising. Some had thus returned to the 2022 law, which limited the use of restaurant vouchers to the purchase of immediately consumable products, such as sandwiches and other fruits and vegetables, while others continued to act as if the proposal The pending law had already been approved by the entire Parliament.
With the resumption of the parliamentary session, the Senate took up the text massively supported by the French who have the famous restaurant vouchers, and therefore approved it in the same terms as the Bourbon Palace. The text should come into force in the coming days, after its promulgation by the President of the Republic. As a reminder, this expansion of the use of restaurant vouchers was initially put in place at the end of the Covid-19 crisis in order to support the purchasing power of the French.
