Folk high schools are forced to cut back after reduced support

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

Several community colleges around the country are now sounding the alarm about cutbacks, after the government announced in its budget that they are cutting support by half a billion this year. The extra education support that existed during the pandemic is being removed, without increasing the usual grant.

One of the schools that now needs to cut down its activities is Axevalla Folkhögskola outside Skara. It is one of Sweden’s oldest folk high schools and one of the most important courses at the school is the general course, where you catch up on primary and secondary school.

– It’s sad, because Folkhögskolan is such an important actor. It reduces educational gaps, so that people get a chance, says principal Susanne Johansson Tiberg.
