In recognition of Financial Literacy Month, the City of Brantford and its community partners are hosting a Financial Empowerment Community Resource Fair on Nov. 29

The event will be held at the Best Western Brantford Hotel and Conference Centre, 19 Holiday Dr., from 10 am to 6 pm

The fair is free and open to all. Attendees can join interactive break-out sessions on a range of financial topics, including:
- 10:30 am to 11:15 am — Meal planning on a budget with Brant Skills Centre.
- 11:30 am to 12:15 pm — Protecting our finances and being aware of frauds and scams with Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario.
- 1:30 pm to 2:15 pm — Housing 101 for Newcomers with Wesley.
- 2:30 pm to 3:15 pm — Understanding the Canadian tax systems and accessing benefits with Service Canada.
- 3:30 pm to 4:15 pm — Financially preparing for post-secondary education with the Laurier financial literacy department.
- 4:30 pm to 5:15 pm — Household budget management with Tracy Graham.

Representatives from local organizations, including Brant Skills Centre, Elder Abuse Prevention Ontario, Community Legal Clinic, Victim Services of Brant, Service Canada, Brantford-Brant Business Resource Centre, Laurier Student Financial Services, Contact Brant, and the City of Brantford will be on site to answer questions and help attendees connect with information and services.
“It’s important for residents to have access to financial information, resources, tools and services that can help inform decision making at every age and stage of life,” said Courtney Lebel, the city’s community initiatives coordinator.
Those interested in attending the fair can drop in to speak with any organization representative or attend any of the break-out sessions. No registration is required.
