Born without a uterus, Deborah is the first woman in France to have received a uterus transplant (that of her mother) thanks to Professor Ayoubi’s team at the Foch Hospital in Suresnes. This transplant allowed the birth of Misha in 2021 and for a few days, another little girl has come to enlarge the family. Maxine was born on February 17th.

The Doctissimo team had the immense pleasure of receiving Deborah, the first woman to have a uterus transplant in France just a few weeks ago. Pregnant with her second baby, the future mother was in great shape!

Rokitansky syndrome: Deborah was born without a uterus

A top athlete, Deborah was not immediately worried about not seeing her period when she was a teenager. After a consultation with a gynecologist, he announces to the young woman that she does not have a uterus… Deborah suffers from Rokitansky syndrome (MRKH), a rare congenital condition characterized by the absence of a uterus and at least the upper 2/3 of the vagina. A syndrome that affects approximately 1 young woman in 4,500. If Deborah first mourned motherhood, it was her dad who allowed her to learn about medical advances in uterine transplantation. A feat that becomes reality thanks to the intervention of Professor Ayoubi and his team from the Foch hospital in Suresnes. In 2019, Deborah becomes the first woman in France to receive a uterus transplant, that of her mother. A few months later, Deborah and her spouse are expecting their first child (resulting from in vitro fertilization), a little girl who was born in good health on February 12, 2021. A miracle baby who is making her whole family happy!

Womb transplant: a second baby for Deborah

It was with great joy and emotion that we learned a few months after Misha’s birth that a second baby was planned for Déborah. On this occasion, the Doctissimo team received the resplendent future mother in complete privacy. On February 17, little Maxine was born at 35 weeks. The baby and the mother are in perfect health.

In a press release sent this Friday to the media, the Foch hospital recalls that “This new birth occurred thanks to more than 15 years of research work carried out by the team of Professor Jean-Marc AYOUBI, head of the Gynecology department. , Obstetrics and Reproductive Medicine at the Foch Hospital and Professor at the Faculty of Medicine Simone Veil – UVSQ – Paris-Saclay.”

Other good news, a second patient was able to benefit from a uterus transplant: “As part of this research protocol, a second transplant was performed by this same team in September 2022 where a patient with the same syndrome benefited of the womb transplant from her sister.”
