Flying Swiss and German big cats

The new update “Dance of Dragons” brings tons of new war equipment into the game. Including a player-designed plane!

What’s new in Dance of Dragons? The latest update for War Thunder expands the vehicle selection again with numerous vehicles and makes further improvements to the game.

This is how the ships of the French coastal fleet come into play for the first time. This is a separate branch of research in which you get a lot of small, maneuverable boats. In addition, the internal models of many vehicles and especially helicopters have been thoroughly revised and improved. A new user interface in the loadout menu also makes the configuration of your vehicles even clearer.

By players, for players – The FFA P-16

This Rank 6 Premium aircraft is an experimental ground attack aircraft from Switzerland. And in fact, the terrain of this country presented the engineers with massive challenges, as they had to develop a fighter aircraft that could also take off and land on unpaved runways in the mountains.

That’s why the P-16 is particularly compact and has powerful engines. This makes the plane extremely easy to control. Their high maneuverability at extremely low altitudes makes them an excellent dogfighter, especially in mountainous terrain.

The P-16 can still fly tight turns even when other aircraft are in danger of stalling.

This compact fighter jet was developed especially for Swiss mountain slopes and is particularly strong in the mountains.

Despite its compact design, the P-16 carries tons of ammunition into battle. It smokes away air targets with two 30 mm cannons and AIM-9B missiles. Ground targets tremble from bombs weighing up to 2,000 pounds and fear an arsenal of up to 48 missiles. Despite the high payload, the flight characteristics hardly change. So you can fly quickly through mountains and valleys with the P-16 and wreak havoc on everything that comes in front of you.

Although the P-16 never went beyond prototype status in reality, in War Thunder players Vitaly Vostokov and Vladimir Stanislavsky, in collaboration with the Air Force Center Dübendorf, brought this amazing aircraft back to life.

Agile big cat – The PUMA VJTF

The German armored personnel carrier Puma ranks 7th in War Thunder and is considered one of the most modern and strongest tanks of this type. The “VJTF” variant from 2023 is the latest version.

Even in its standard version, the Puma is a maneuverable and fast vehicle that can survive heavy fire thanks to its active defense systems. But make sure that you never get hit directly, because the puma’s actual armor is rather weak.

The latest version of the Puma is one of the most modern armored personnel carriers in the world. The new rocket launchers in particular are an improvement.

But if you play this big cat correctly, your opponents will be smoking wrecks long before they even get around to shooting. With its powerful 30mm autocannon alone, the Puma is a fearsome opponent that can compete with all other vehicles and helicopters. The stabilized cannon makes it possible to cover the enemy with a veritable hail of bullets even at full speed.

The modern VJTF version, on the other hand, has a two-tube MELLS launcher on board in addition to the thick gun. This can be used to fire deadly Spike LR missiles. These are powerful projectiles that, based on the “fire and forget” principle, track tanks or helicopters independently after launch and quickly turn them into smoking wrecks.

Fun fact: The puma was actually originally supposed to be a hedgehog, but they decided on the martial big cat name.

Floating Fortress – The USS Tennessee

Among the new ships, one in particular stands out: the USS Tennessee, a veritable floating fortress! This is a powerful US battleship ranked 6th. The USS Tennessee was launched in 1919 and was the latest generation of large battleships at the time. As is typical for ships of this class and era, the Tennessee is massively armored and has massive firepower.

This powerful battleship is a match for any enemy, whether in the water or in the air.

The battleship’s main battery has twelve 356 mm cannons that can shoot particularly long distances thanks to radar-based target detection. The Tennessee is always significantly superior to comparable Japanese units.

To ensure that enemy cruisers, destroyers and even aircraft don’t have any fun with the battleship, the USS Tennessee is brimming with secondary armament. Eight multi-purpose cannons with a caliber of 5 inches take care primarily of smaller ships. To ensure that there is no danger from the air, there are 10 quadruple 40 mm cannons and a further 43 automatic cannons with a caliber of 20 mm.

The only weak point of this Leviathan is its rather modest mobility. But with a displacement of over 33,000 tons, that’s really no surprise. So make sure you don’t get into unfavorable situations with the colossus and be careful not to be outmaneuvered.

Fun fact: The USS Tennessee survived the attack on Pearl Harbor and was subsequently both repaired and significantly upgraded. She was also involved in almost every major battle in the Pacific War. This also included the famous “Battle of the Surigao Strait,” the last classic sea battle between large battleships.
