The county administrations in Jönköping and Kalmar counties are using the Coast Guard to monitor the drought in Emån. Flights over the area should give a better picture of the situation.
Eastern Småland has been affected by a long-term drought. The Emån is an important watercourse and the situation remains critical, with water levels steadily dropping.
Restrictions have been introduced for water extraction from the river. Emån is southeastern Sweden’s largest watercourse and contributes drinking water to several municipalities.
