AnnaSara Carnahanepidemiologist and investigator at the Public Health Agency, says in a press release that the situation was strained during December last year because both influenza, RS virus and covid-19 reached high levels at the same time.
“During every period of increased infection there are people who become seriously ill, but this winter was the first time we saw a simultaneous peak with all three diseases,” she says.
However, the spread of covid-19 is still ongoing and is expected to continue even during the summer months.
“The number of confirmed cases, as well as the number enrolled in inpatient care and intensive care, was at its highest around the turn of the year, but has subsequently decreased and remained at the same level since March,” writes the Public Health Agency.
