The defender of the Classic, two-time world champion Krister Savonen, was injured in the second match of the season in Espoo.

Floorball player Krister Savonen end his career. He reports this on his Instagram account. On Monday, Savonen’s team Tampereen Classic won the Finnish championship for the sixth time in a row.

In September, Savonen was hit hard by the Oilers – Classic in the men’s F-League match. His head hit the concrete wall of Tapiola Sports Hall in the second set of the match on 33.10. An ambulance was alerted to the scene and the match was suspended for that day.

In December, Savonen said on social media that he was taking a distance from the sport and would no longer play in 2021–22. He said he had the fifth and sixth concussions of his career during the year. Savonen wrote that he suffered from depression and anxiety / panic attacks, as well as problems with memory, concentration, balance and eye movements.

– At the same time, my own floorball end. The matter is still difficult for itself to accept, but still the only right decision. There are still blood challenges in everyday life that there is no other option. I want to thank everyone who has been involved in the trip. The thousands of memories I have experienced will never go away and I will hold them in high esteem for the rest of my life.

– The direction is a bit lost, but it is towards a better tomorrow!

Savonen’s collision with a concrete wall caused a heated debate in the autumn about the safety of the floorball league and the conditions in the halls. In Espoo, for example, the walls are close to the sides of the floorball bowl, but there are similar problems elsewhere.

At the meeting, the clubs decided that each of them would carry out a safety survey in their own circumstances and address the identified risk areas, for example by cushioning the protruding surfaces.

Krister Savonen, 27, has been playing at Classic since his entire domestic league career in 2010. In between, he also represented the Swiss Wiler-Ersigen.

Savonen was able to celebrate the Finnish championship five times when this season is included. In his last season, Savonen had only one match to play.

At the World Championships, Savonen played an important role in the World Cup gold teams in 2016 and 2018.
