Floods, fires, earthquakes, radioactivity or even chemical pollution: the dangers weighing in your place of life are numerous. To inform you, the Internet user has developed free online service and easy to use.

Natural disasters are, unfortunately and more and more regularly, the front page of the news, with the multiplication of dramatic events. Whether on the other side of the Atlantic with the recent fires that ravaged California, or closer to us with the terrible floods that hit France last October or at the start of the year, natural disasters seem to be linked, more and more frequently and more and more violently.

The causes are perfectly known, even if some want to veil their face: climate change, unsuitable town planning and the proliferation of dangerous and polluting industries are the three pillars that support the worsening of natural and technological risks. If the solutions to these problems can only be collective, it is however necessary for everyone to learn, in order to know the dangers to which it is exposed, in order to prepare for it as best as possible.

With this in mind, our colleagues from the Internet user have developed and posted online A completely free service, which brings together a gigantic amount of data and information on natural and technological risks in France. Based on a dozen institutional sources, this tool brings together data relating to natural disasters and industrial accidents over several decades, and synthesized them in the form of cards and interactive diagrams.

The tool makes it easy to learn about natural and technological risks existing on French territory, according to several geographic scales: regional, departmental or municipal. To explore the available data, we can use an interactive map of France in order to click on the territory which interests us, or directly search for a city by its name or by its postal code.

For each geographical scale, the service offers a series of tables, graphs and cards that allow you to easily visualize the risks that threaten a given territory. Earthquakes, floods, forest fires, exposure to the radon, installation of Seveso factories or even termites, all the main natural, technological and industrial dangers are listed and detailed.

For each type of risk or exposure, the Internet user portal offers a clear and suitable infographic to the data to be represented. Interactive maps for flooding areas or clay soils subject to the phenomen of remonstry, histograms going up until 1980 to know the frequency of events per year, and synthetic diagrams indicating the proportion of each type of risk in disasters declared on a territory.

These numerous data are thus made easily accessible and understandable for everyone. Whether it’s preparing a project to buy or build your accommodation, think about the best work to undertake to secure your home, or learn about the merits of the development policy of your municipality , this free online service can be a solid public information and decision -making tool.
