In June 2021, the artwork was installed in the Singel as part of the lustrum of the University of Utrecht and the University Medical Center. Since then it has functioned as a meeting place between science and society. But there was a lot of criticism of the artwork. Local residents would find it ugly. Akwaglot also proved to be a stumbling block for the tourist boats that dock in the summer.
