Damascus airport aims to open for international flights on Christmas Eve.
Damascus airport came to life again on Wednesday. The flight of the Syrian state airline took off from there towards Aleppo.
The Airbus plane of Syrian Arab Airlines carried 43 people on the first domestic flight after the revolution.
Defeated by the rebels Bashar al-Assad troops fled the field of Damascus on December 8. No flights had taken off from the airport since then.
According to the news agency AFP, airport employees painted the three-star flag used by the rebels on the airline’s planes earlier in the week. Terminal tickets have also been changed.
An airport official told AFP that the field would be ready to receive international flights from Christmas Eve after maintenance work.
