So it’s back, Aviation Day in Uppsala – a logistical challenge for the Defense Forces and a holiday for all aviation lovers. On Saturday, there will be two air shows with Jas 39 Gripen, Viggenflyg, J 35 Draken, helicopter flights, Hercules planes, gliders and more. The armed forces also carry out an exercise after lunch consisting of, among other things, air combat and air landing from a helicopter.
30,000 parking spaces
An event that is expected to attract a large audience (on the eve of the last one held four years ago, there was talk of 150,000 visitors) requires its preparations. 30,000 parking spaces have been arranged (the organizer prefers that you take the bus or cycle to avoid traffic chaos), during the day the Armed Forces expect to sell around 180,000 lunches and there are roughly 320 bajamajors on site for those who need to lighten up the pressure.
How will the flight weather be then? SMHI’s forecast says cloudy in the morning. The temperature stays between 17 and 23 degrees.
During the morning, the car queues were long towards F 16 and those who got to the event in this way were sitting for a good while waiting to get in.
But according to Jonas Eronen, press spokesperson for the central region, many have made it to Flygdagen by bus and bicycle.
– The car park is not fully occupied.
And how many do you expect to have arrived.
– At 12.45, the flotilla staff I spoke to said that it was about 140,000-150,000 people and that it would be a record crowd.
What do you think it could be due to?
– There are several things. We have war in our vicinity, the NATO issue is current, the aviation day has had a break and so it is free to come here.
