Flight attendant sentenced for gross flight drunkenness: “Feeling sober”

The Arlanda police had to go out to a gate at the airport on the morning of August 3.

Just before a Ryanair plane was to take off for Riga, one of the staff discovered that his colleague in the crew smelled of alcohol and alerted the captain, who in turn contacted the police.

The police patrol then carried out a newsworthiness check. A 20-year-old woman who worked as a flight attendant on the plane tested positive and was arrested for being drunk on duty.

According to the investigation, she had almost 1.2 per thousand of alcohol in her body. At one per thousand is used have slurred speech and difficulty walking steadily.

– I drank brandy shots, I don’t know how many, said the woman after the arrest.

Escapes prison: “I felt sober”

The prosecutor who investigated the incident stated that the flight attendant had “an essential importance for flight safety”.

– I am responsible for the safety of the flight and the flight crew, she said herself in questioning.

The police: Were you aware that it is a crime to be drunk at work?

– I know that, but I felt completely sober.

The flight attendant is now being sentenced for gross drunkenness. According to the district court, the penalty for the crime is one month in prison, but the penalty was reduced to a suspended sentence and SEK 4,400 in fines because she was not a pilot or cabin manager and since the risk of recidivism is deemed to be low and because she has previously been unpunished.
