FLECHE WALLONNE 2022. Bahrain rider Dylan Teuns won the Flèche Wallonne 2022 ahead of Spaniard Alejandro Valverde. World champion and favourite, Julian Alaphilippe finished at the foot of the podium. Classification.
“Relieved”. After the arrival of the Flèche Wallonne, Julian Alaphilippe explained that he was relieved that the race was over. At the end of a grouped final as usual, it was the Belgian Dylan Teuns from Bahrain who won and who finally takes over from a certain Philippe Gilbert, the last Belgian rider to have won on the classic. “It’s unbelievable. I’ve always dreamed of winning a classic and it’s finally happening. I’ve always believed in my abilities. From the day I stepped on the podium here, I’ve always continued to believe that I will climb the highest step one day”, confides, at the microphone of the RTBF.
As mentioned above, Julian Alaphilippe was on his side “relieved” and has no regrets. “Relieved that the race is over, because I had a lot of pressure before the start and I had been thinking about these Ardennes classics for a while now. Certainly today (Wednesday) I came to win and nothing else I would have liked to do it, especially with all that we hear about us (the Quick-Step team, disappointing since the start of the classics campaign), but I felt worse than in previous years. Usually, it’s me who accelerates to win. There, 500 meters from the finish, I was already at my limit.”
