Summer is coming again. The 400,000 Dutch caravans are hitting the road, and not all truck drivers are happy about that. And caravan owners are sometimes not happy with the behavior of trucks. “Caravans often drive slower than us drivers, and then you have to overtake, and we don’t like to do that,” explains Jeroen. “And what is really a big annoyance is when a caravan merges on the highway. They sometimes do this at a speed that is much too low, so that I have to brake completely with my truck. Getting back up to speed with a truck takes quite a lot of time and a lot of diesel.” The annoyance of truck drivers for caravans is also apparent from a game that was played for years at the annual Truckstar Festival in Assen. Drivers had to compete in a competition to see who could drive a caravan into powder the fastest.
