It has now been five years since the world was told that a person had died of covid-19.
A 61-year-old man in Wuhan, China, died of what was called a type of pneumonia on January 9, 2020, which Chinese authorities confirmed two days later.
However, the name covid-19 came later – at the beginning of what would develop into a pandemic, the new coronavirus was described as a new, previously unknown virus.
At the same time as the Chinese authorities announced the 61-year-old’s death, it was announced that seven people were in critical condition, and that another 41 people had been infected by the new virus but were judged to be in stable condition.
Over seven million people have since died with covid-19, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
