Demonstrations of the Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu and against this government’s controversial judicial reform have continued last night in Israel. On Saturday, thousands of people demonstrated again in places like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

In connection with the demonstration in Tel Aviv, a seemingly wild situation happened yesterday, when a man driving a car suddenly accelerated his car towards the protesters standing on the road. People had blocked the busy Ayalo highway as part of the protest.

Several people were thrown to the ground by the impact. Haaretz magazine according to the report, five people were injured in the collision. The police arrested the driver of the car at the scene of the accident.

The law reform limiting the power of the country’s Supreme Court has led to protests for 36 weeks in a row. The legal package, which has been met with strong opposition for months, would remove the so-called reasonableness clause from the country’s highest court, under which it has been able to intervene in decisions made by the government and overturn decisions it considers illegal.

The law reform pushed by Netanyahu has also been criticized for giving politicians even greater power to influence the selection of Supreme Court judges.

Those opposed to the reform feel that the law changes will increase the risk of corruption and that the country’s conservative right-wing government will lead the country towards a dictatorship. The Israeli Supreme Court will discuss the legality of the reform plan approved by the government on Tuesday.
