18 people were shot dead and 13 injured in the mass shooting in the US state of Maine.

The shooter is still at large and the small town of Lewiston has been put on lockdown.

Here are five points about the act.

1. 18 dead and 13 injured

The police in the city of Lewiston in the American state of Maine received a call at 19:00 on Wednesday evening local time about a shooting in progress.

Police, ambulance and emergency services then rushed to the bowling alley Sparetime Recreation.

Soon after, another call came in about a shooting – from the restaurant Schemengees Bar & Grille.

The police were quickly on the scene, but the shooter had then managed to escape. Later, 18 people were found dead and another 13 people injured in the act.

2. Sagittarius – hears voices

The wanted shooter is identified as Robert Card, 40.

In a police warrant, Card is described as having a history of military service and a trained firearms instructor who is still in the Army Reserves.

According to authorities in Maine, he suffers from mental problems where he hears voices and was admitted to a psychiatric hospital this summer after he threatened to open fire at a National Guard base in Maine.

Hours after the crime, the car Card fled in, a 2013 Subaru Outback, was found at a Lisbon marina outside Lewiston, according to local media.

It is the last trace of him.

3. Police to residents: Seek shelter

The shooter is still at large on Thursday evening at 23:00 Swedish time.

Since the killing, the 40,000 residents of Lewiston, Maine’s second largest city after Portland, have been told to seek shelter.

Swedish Johan Bergström lives just kilometers from the shooting. He was one of those told to lock their doors in a text message from the authorities.

– Most of the neighbors have turned off all the lights. We only have a small lamp lit in one of the rooms, says Johan Bergström to Aftonbladet.

In the neighboring city of Auburn, residents have also been urged to seek shelter.

4. The victim went after the shooter

The police are working to identify the victims – and now some of them have been made public.

Including Bryan Macfarlane, 40, who was taking part in a cornhole tournament for the deaf at the restaurant where suspected shooter Robert Card burst in.

His sister Keri Brooks talks about the grief for CNN.

– I grew up in Maine and the local association for the deaf is really close-knit. It was not only my brother who was killed, but also his friends.

Councilor Leroy Walker’s son Joseph also died in the shooting at the restaurant. According to the police, he picked up a knife and went after the perpetrator to try to stop him when he was shot to death

5. Deadliest since 2022

The mass shooting is the deadliest in the United States since the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, reports CNN.

It was on May 24, 2022 that then 18-year-old Salvador Rolando Ramos walked into Robb Elementary School and killed 21 people.
