Ten years ago, tick problems were almost completely isolated to the Mälardal region. Today, the rest of the country accounts for over half of all TBE infections.
What is driving the increase is above all that the ticks are spreading over an increasingly large geographical area.
Large increase in Värmland
Värmland County is one of the areas where TBE infection has increased significantly.
According to figures from the insurance company If, ten years ago there were around four people per year who fell ill, five years ago nine people per year, while the average in recent years has been 19 people per year – an increase of over 409 percent in ten years .
In 2022, a record was broken – 27 infected in one year.
