five days without electricity in the capital

Long power cuts for entire days, particularly in the northern districts of Brazzaville where citizens cannot watch television, charge their phones or carry out their activities linked to the supply of electricity… this is a situation which makes the daily life of the inhabitants very difficult.

With our correspondent in Brazzaville, Loicia Martial

Just after the National Radio and Television Center (CNRTV), all the districts of the capital of Congo Brazzaville became ghost zones after dark. We don’t see any spark there like in this bakery, although very busy, where making bread is no longer easy. Darel is one of the managers of this company: “ For five days in a row we had no power and it was difficult for us. Yesterday we were unable to work due to lack of electricity. And, the generator consumes too much diesel compared to our profits, it didn’t work “, he lamented.

Unfortunate »

Darel regrets not being able to meet the demand of consumers who can no longer find bread: “ There is no bread in the neighborhood and it is condemned to famine. It’s really unfortunate “, he further indicated.

To cope with the lack of electricity, some companies and businesses use generators whose deafening noise is unbearable, like in front of this night pharmacy where sellers and buyers no longer know which way to turn: “ If there are excessive cuts it is because the network has aged. There will always be an electricity problem in Brazzaville because the network has not been overhauled yet. », they denounce.

Fire

The company Énergie Electrique du Congo explains the current situation by the destruction by a fire of unknown origin of the high voltage station which supplies the northern zone of Brazzaville. Added to the scarcity of electricity is the lack of water. This flows intermittently during this period of high heat.
