Five countries are calling on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the war between terrorist-branded Hamas and Israel, ICC Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan announces.

It is the countries of South Africa, Bangladesh, Bolivia, the Comoros and Djibouti – all of which are members of the ICC – that want to see an investigation into the “situation in the Palestinian state”.

An investigation into events in the Gaza Strip and occupied West Bank was launched in March 2021 and is now being extended “to the escalation of hostilities and violence since the attacks that took place in October 2023,” Khan announced in a statement.

The chief prosecutor recently visited the Rafah border crossing between Egypt and Gaza, and says his team collected a “significant” amount of evidence of “relevant events” in the war.

Thousands of people have been killed in the war since it broke out in October, following a Hamas terror attack on Israel.
