Five men who were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of being labeled a terrorist crime have been requested to be detained on probable cause.

Säpo has previously described the group as having links to international terrorism.

The five men were arrested on the lower level of suspicion as reasonable suspects, but are now requested to be detained on the higher level of suspicion, writes Eskilstuna district court in a press release.

There have previously been reports in several media that one of the five is a 15-year-old boy.

The Public Prosecutor’s Office’s press service tells TT on Thursday afternoon that it is about five men who have been requested to be detained.

The men were arrested on Tuesday morning in a coordinated operation by the police’s national task force in Eskilstuna, Linköping and Strängnäs. According to Säpo, the crackdown went smoothly.

The detention proceedings will be held at Eskilstuna district court on Good Friday morning.

Susanna Trehörning, deputy unit head for counter-terrorism at Säpo, stated in connection with the arrest that the assessment was that the five have connections to the terrorist organization IS, and that an attack was not immediately imminent.

– We assess that there are international connections, specifically the terrorist organization IS, said Trehörning.

According to Säpo, the current case is one of several that were worked on after the far-right politician Rasmus Paludan’s high-profile Koran burning outside the Turkish embassy in January.

Paludan’s Koran burning evoked strong emotions and reactions, and international calls for assassinations followed. According to Säpo, Sweden went from being a “legitimate” target for terrorist attacks to a “priority”.
