Five are released from custody after suspected murder at Österängen in Jönköping

It was on January 14 that a man was found dead in a forest on Österängen in Jönköping. During Tuesday, the arrests were lifted for the five people who were suspected of involvement.

– The state of the evidence no longer justifies keeping the persons in custody, says chamber prosecutor Maria Lundberg.

According to the prosecutor, however, the criminal suspicions remain, but the preliminary investigation requires further investigative measures and therefore there is no reason for the persons to be detained, the Prosecutor’s Office writes in a press release.

Preliminary investigation not closed

The preliminary investigation has not been closed and the public prosecutor’s office will carry out further investigative measures.

– At this stage, I believe that it is unlikely that the measures will strengthen the criminal suspicions enough for me to make another assessment in the matter of prosecution, says Maria Lundberg.
