At the beginning of October last year, a dam broke at Sågsjön north of Trummelsberg outside Fagersta. The lake was emptied of water and the ancient monument, the dam itself, was washed away.
The lessee of the land, the fishing club Aspen from Västerås, had installed a grid at the mouth of the lake to stop planted fish from escaping. When the dam broke, it was noticed that the grille that had been there since the 1990s, had been installed there illegally.
– It is very sad that this is coming out now after so many years. It is no news that the grill has been there during all these years, says Kim Sahlberg, chairman of the fishing club Aspen.
According to Kim Sahlberg, it has been established that the grate did not cause the landslide to collapse. He had wished it had been pointed out earlier that they did not have a permit for the grid, as it had long been known that the grid had been at the site.
The fishing association has accepted a fine of SEK 10,000 for having made various interventions in the ancient monument.
