First victory for Sirius: “It’s been really hard”

The Uppsala team won the away match 2–1. Substitute Tashreeq Matthews had only been on the field for a few seconds when he poked in the winning goal, off a cross from Aron Bjarnason.

“This feels good, it was 20 years ago when I last won in the Allsvenskan,” says Christer Mattiasson, who himself was an Allsvenskan player once upon a time.

Last year, he took BP from the Superettan to the Allsvenskan.

BP took the lead in the 23rd minute through a goal by Oskar Pettersson. Four minutes later, the home team dribbles the ball in their own penalty area and Edi Sylisufaj was able to equalize.

The 2–1 goal was scored in the 64th minute and means that Sirus breaks the win streak and leaves the relegation spot for 13th place, above the qualifying mark, in the Allsvenskan table right now.

Sirius came into the match after four straight losses.

— We don’t play a great game but run and fight, we do something extra that is hard to put into words. Thought to finally win a football match, it’s been so hard. Now we’re going to enjoy and take this in, says Mattiasson.

— Success breeds success, so now we hope to bounce back from this.

Before the match, BP had not lost a point since the first three games of the season, which they lost. The Stockholm team remains in sixth place in the table.
