True Detective became one of the most popular HBO series in 2014 and caused a series hype like we have had in the past decade have rarely experienced. The premise: Two detectives (Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson) get lost more and more in the depths of a case that stretches over years.
The series was conceived as an anthology, which means that each season tells its own, self-contained story. However, True Detective was never able to follow the phenomenal opening round. With Night Country, Season 4, the series reinvents itself once more. And the first trailer looks very promising.

Nic Pizzolatto, the original creators and showrunners of the series, is not involved in the production of Season 4. Instead, Issa López, who caused a stir with her crime-fantasy thriller Tigers Are Not Afraid in 2017, takes over the creative reins. López wrote and directed all episodes. Moonlight director Barry Jenkins is on board as executive producer.
When does True Detective season 4 start?
The exact start date of True Detective season 4 has not yet been announced. The trailer promises, however, that the new episodes later this year will be released in the USA on the broadcaster HBO and the streaming service Max (formerly HBO Max). It can be assumed that the episodes in Germany can be seen promptly on Sky and the associated streaming service WOW.
