Challengers maker Luca Guadagnino portrays Daniel Craig as a heroin addict
Queer is based on the book of the same name by the famous American author William S. Burroughs, who deals with his own experiences from the 1950s. The film shows Lee (Craig), who lives as a foreigner in Mexico and seeks sexual adventures with other men indulges his heroin addiction. But when he meets the handsome Allerton (Drew Starkey), everything happens to him.
Allerton accepts Lee’s caresses, but also repeatedly gives him the cold shoulder. Full of heartbreak, a phase of Lee’s adventures begins that takes him accompany him throughout his life becomes.
Like the book, Guadagnino’s film also has autobiographical features that refer to Burroughs’ life. As a queer man, he actually lived in Mexico for a time and met the model for his book character Allerton there. The author often carried handguns and was addicted to drugs for much of his life.
