The next big live-action remake of a beloved Disney classic is on the horizon. The Pinocchio film by Robert Zemeckis will be released this year – not in the cinema, but directly on Disney+. The first teaser trailer shows what exactly awaits us in the reinterpretation of the well-known fairy tale story.

Disney has had numerous animated films from its own catalog over the past few years reissued in real film guise, from The Jungle Book to Beauty and the Beast to Mulan. Now it’s Pinocchio’s turn from 1940. The first moving images were very much based on the original.

Pinocchio – Teaser Trailer (English) HD

The biggest name in the cast is Tom Hanks. He plays Geppetto, the lonely carpenter who makes himself a wooden doll that brought to life by a spell. That spell is cast by the Blue Fairy (Cynthia Erivo). At that moment, the eponymous Pinocchio is born, whose nose grows as soon as he lies.

In addition to Hanks and Erivo, the cast includes Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Jiminy Cricket), Keegan-Michael Key (Honest John & Gideon) and Lorraine Bracco (Sofia the Seagull). We won’t see her on camera though. Instead of this only lend the voice to the characters. Luke Evans, who also appeared in Beauty and the Beast, appears as the human driver.

Pinocchio starts on September 8, 2022 on Disney+.
