Gladiator 2 trailer shows us Lucius as Russell Crowe’s successor
In Gladiator, Russell Crowe’s Maximus not only lost his family, but also his position as a Roman general and then worked his way up from slave to fighter. His goal: to take revenge on the Emperor Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix). But even though he got his revenge, Maximus eventually died in the Colosseum. As a result, Gladiator 2 has a new main character – but one we still know.
The focus of the Gladiator sequel this time is Lucius (Paul Mescal)who was saved by Maximus as a boy in the arena. He is the son of Maximus’ love Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus, thus himself of imperial blood. In the meantime, however, the child has grown up, is estranged from his mother and is stranded in the wilderness. But even there, Lucius is not afraid of the intrigues and corruption of Rome safe, where the two emperors Geta (Fred Hechinger) and Carcalla (Joseph Quinn) rule.
Other stars in Gladiator 2 include the actors Denzel Washington (The Equalizer) and Pedro Pascal (The Last of Us) key positions. Washington, for example, is the owner of a “gladiator racing team” and Pascal himself is a fighter in the arena, who was already shown in full action in the first Gladiator 2 pictures.
When will Gladiator 2 be released in cinemas?
Gladiator 2 is coming on 21 November 2024 in German cinemas. That is almost exactly one year after Ridley Scott’s historical epic Napoleon last year. The first Gladiator film was released in Germany 24 years ago on May 25, 2000.
