The Night Fury Toothless takes to the skies again. The fantasy series How to Train Your Dragon is getting new blood and the first trailer was released today. But it is not a fourth part of the animated film series. Instead, you can expect a live-action adaptation of the story, with flesh-and-blood actors in front of the camera. Including: Action star Gerard Butler as a cuddly Viking!

The focus of the fantasy adventure is the young Hicks or Hicks the Giant III, son of Viking leader Haudrauf the Stoic. Haudrauf (has there ever been a better name for a Gerard Butler character?) has already been voiced in the animated films by the Scottish star of 300 and Criminal Squad.
The clever Hiccup begins the story as a clumsy outsider and therefore out of place on the island of Berk, which is regularly attacked by dragons. While his father sets out to find the monsters’ nest, Hiccup encounters a rare specimen Night Fury Toothless, who changes Hiccup’s view of the feared creatures.
Mason Thames, who was seen in the horror film The Black Phone, was chosen for the lead role in the live-action film. The Last of Us actress Nico Parker plays his peer Astrid Hofferson, while Shaun of the Dead star Nick Frost takes on the aptly titled role of blacksmith Ruffian the Belcher.
But everything stays the same in the director’s chair: Dean DeBlois also takes on the job in the live-action film. He was already in charge of the animated trilogy and brought it with his team to a total box office gross of 1.6 billion dollars (via The Numbers).
