The Batman established a new DC Universe. Not only is a sequel to the DC hit starring Robert Pattinson currently in the works. At least one series awaits us from the gritty Gotham that we first saw on the big screen last year. It is titled The Penguin.
The Penguin is being developed exclusively for the HBO Max streaming service. Colin Farrell returns after appearing in The Batman as Oswald “Oz” Cobblepot back and seizes control of Gotham. The first teaser that was published on the occasion of the recent start of production shows what this looks like.

The Penguin storyline is set to pick up a week after the events of The Batman. Farrell’s villain rips them Control over Gotham’s underworld himself and makes new enemies in the process. This includes Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), the daughter of crime boss Carmine Falcone (John Turturro).

It can be assumed that the story told in the series is relevant for The Batman 2, which will be released in German cinemas in October 2025. Season 1 includes a total of eight episodes. The prelude will be directed by Craig Zobel, who was previously involved in the hit HBO series Mare of Easttown.
When will The Batman offshoot The Penguin start?
The actual start date of The Penguin is not yet clear. Filming has been underway since early March and is expected to last until July 2023. After that, the project will go into post-production, which means that a series start can no longer be expected before the end of the year. The teaser itself points to 2024.
