The US Senate has taken a step towards approving Republican’s budget proposals to avoid a shutdown of the state apparatus.

Ten Democratic Senators voted with their Republican colleagues. The voting numbers were 62-38.

The preliminary vote required 60 yes votes to move on to a final vote later on Friday.

The Senate’s minority leader Chuck Schumer belonged to the few Democrats who have announced in advance that they intend to support the Republicans’ proposals.

Rand Paul was the only Republican to vote against.

At midnight, American time, the deadline expires to approve the budget proposal and avoid a shutdown.

If the proposal is finally pushed through, it means funding by the state until September 30.
