In Destiny 2, a serious error caused balance chaos at the weekend, especially while the PvP event “Trials of Osiris” was being fought: Bungie initially wanted to let the chaos continue, but then intervened on Saturday evening, September 16th.
What caused chaos? We reported on the serious weapon exploit in Destiny 2 on MeinMMO on Saturday, September 16th:
At MeinMMO a user speaks of weapons that act like a mixture of a linear fusion rifle and a shotgun, with 12 rounds per volley. This is a kind of “God fashion”.
“Let’s all have fun”
What was Bungie’s reaction? In an initial reaction on the night of Friday to Saturday, Bungie said they were keeping an eye on whether things “get too wild,” then they would intervene.
But first: “Let’s all have fun.” (via twitter)
Players fear rollback – some don’t want to play at all at first
How was this received by players? With certain weapons you could activate a kind of “god mode” during the time the exploit was active and complete difficult tasks that would otherwise be impossible.
While this allowed people to take on the most difficult tasks in PvE, the bug in PvP resulted in ridiculously high KDAs for people who exploited the exploit.
While some people seemed to have fun with the bug, many players didn’t like it at all. Because the players had the feeling that there was a threat of a “rollback”, i.e. resetting all game content to an earlier point in time.
YouTuber Datto asked: How can this be allowed? He speaks of the “biggest exploit we’ve ever seen in Destiny”
On MeinMMO, some players announced that they would no longer play at the moment because they believe their game progress will be reset later anyway.
Players said fairness in Destiny 2 is finally over.
There was the feeling: “The honest one is the stupid one”, whoever doesn’t take advantage of the exploit now will miss out on the chance for loot and achievements that they wouldn’t otherwise be able to get.
Bungie is pulling the plug on Saturday evening
How did Bungie react? On Saturday evening at 8:53 p.m. our time, Bungie pulled the emergency brake. Bungie said that while they loved seeing all the “funny clips and antics” (via Twitter), they now need to shift their priority to the health of the game.
It was announced that, as a first fix, all crafted weapons would be made “unequipable”.
In a second fix you want to remove the bug from the game.
There will be no rollback.
This is what lies behind it: This is a strange situation. Typically, when Bungie fixes things that are “too strong,” players often complain and post something like, “Fun discovered – fix coming.” But it’s mostly about little things that make playing more comfortable or bring variety. An example of something like this was the “Sparrow” bug 10 days ago.
But here the exploit was so serious that many players’ sense of justice demanded “tough” intervention from Bungie. But Bungie went against these expectations and the experience of the players by letting everything run its course.
That seemed unpredictable and wasn’t okay.
Many players have a need for their game to be fair so that what they achieve means something. Such a “chaos day” sows doubts.
Destiny 2: Extreme exploit lets players achieve everything right now, but Bungie is doing nothing for now
