The first Geekbench performance results for the M4 processor in the new iPad Pro models are out. Even M3 Max is behind in single core staying.
First release for iPad Pro with M4 processor Geekbench The results appeared ambitious regarding performance. The 10-core variant of the 3nm-based M4 processor achieved an average single-core score of 3,695 and an average multi-core score of 14,550. MacRumors compared these results to Apple’s other M-Series processors, the following table emerged:
-M4 – 3,695/14,550
-M2 – 2,540/9,360
-M2 Pro – 2,651/14,295
-M2 Max – 2,802/14,800
-M1 – 2,272/8,208
-M3 – 3,087/11,702
-M3 Pro – 3,112/15,286
-M3 Max – 3,128/20,957
Exceeding expectations in terms of performance and surpassing even the M3 Max in single-core but not multi-core, M4 will clearly keep the new Pros as devices that can handle all kinds of work for a very, very long time. Apple is not expected to update new iPads with “Pro” installed in any way for at least 3 years.

Apple itself says the following about the M4 processor: “Produced with second-generation 3-nanometer technology, M4 features SoC (system on a chip) technology that advances the industry-leading power efficiency of the Apple chip and enables the incredibly thin design of the iPad Pro. Plus, this chip’s brand new display engine gives iPad Pro’s breakthrough Ultra Retina XDR display stunning clarity, colors and brightness. The new CPU has up to 10 cores and is built on the new generation GPU architecture introduced with M3. Along with the new 10-core GPU, Dynamic Caching, hardware-accelerated ray tracing and hardware-accelerated mesh shading technologies come to iPad for the first time.
M4 has the fastest Neural Engine Apple has ever offered. This technology, which provides a capacity of up to 38 trillion operations per second, is faster than the neural processing units found in today’s artificial intelligence-enabled PCs. “The M4 chip, combined with faster memory bandwidth, next-generation machine learning accelerators in the CPU, and high-performance GPU, turns the new iPad Pro into an incredibly powerful device for AI.”
“The new iPad Pro with M4 chip is a great example of how designing best-in-class custom chips enables breakthrough products.” who says Johny Srouji, Apple’s Vice President of Hardware Technologies, continues his words as follows: “The power-efficient performance of the M4, combined with the new display engine, enables the game-changing display and slim design of the iPad Pro. In addition, with the fundamental improvements made to the CPU, GPU, Neural Engine and memory system, the M4 chip is well suited for the latest applications that benefit from artificial intelligence. “Combined, this new chip transforms iPad Pro into the most powerful device of its kind.”
