After the last game of Saints Row, which did not meet expectations, different plans of the fifth game of the series, Saints Row 5, emerged.
Saints Row, which was released last year, was criticized a lot for not meeting expectations. The open-world game received mixed reactions from critics and the fanbase, but was also a commercial failure. But according to a new report, the fifth main installment in the series could have gone in a very different direction, if things had turned out differently.
According to a video posted by YouTuber mrsaintsgodzilla21, developer Volition’s plan included focusing on characters from previous games in Saints Row 5. Old characters such as Johnny Gat, Shaundi, Pierce, Dex and Aisha were planned to return as Saints.
After the Studio Closing, Saints Row 5 and the Future of the Series
The developer allegedly intended the game to impress both old fans and new players. This included the game’s aim to tell a more realistic story. According to the video, the game would be 80 percent similar to Saints Row 2 and 20 percent similar to Saints Row: The Third. It is also stated that a mission designed by community mod designer Mike Watson, who passed away in 2021, will be included in the game and will give players the chance to kill Dex.
However, this alleged plan resulted in the decision to abandon the original plan and completely redesign it when it became clear that developer Volition’s path throughout a significant portion of the game’s development did not align with what publisher Deep Silver had in mind for the next game in the series.
Earlier this year, Volition was shut down as part of Deep Silver’s parent company, Embracer Group. Following the studio’s closure, Deep Silver announced that Saints Row would continue with other studios.
