Unlike Disney+, Netflix has to build the film worlds itself. Star Wars films no longer come to the streaming service and new Marvel films only occasionally. One try one big franchise to establish started 2 years ago with The Old Guard, which was based on a graphic novel.

Two weeks ago we reported on the new cast for The Old Guard 2, which includes Tarantino star Uma Thurman. Now there’s also a picture from The Old Guard 2 shoot shared by leading lady Theron herself. Netflix is really pushing the sequel, here’s the proof:

What was The Old Guard about and what could happen in the sequel?
Warrior Andy (Charlize Theron) and her small group of perfectly trained mercenaries are a tight-knit group. But they have a well-kept secret: they have been blessed with immortality for centuries. Unable to be killed, they have protected the world as combatants for a long time.
As a new member, Nile is taken on by Andy on a trial basis and as a recruit she stumbles into the middle of a big conspiracy. Because an evil power wants to reproduce the immortal skills of the fighters and turn them into money. The troops have to prevent that. Cost what it may.

Finally, in the very last scene of The Old Guard, the time jump occurs Return of Quynh (Van Veronica Ngo) announces. For over 500 years, Andy’s former comrade-in-arms was trapped at the bottom of the ocean.
2 years ago, The Old Guard director Gina Prince-Bythewood talked about the fact that the sequel tie into the history of Quynh becomes:
It will be based on the graphic novel. Regarding what Greg [Rucka] wrote, Quynh is now involved again and that definitely triggers some problems. But there is also a very solid story that deals with problems within the world and again brings with it more villains who aren’t immortal. So it’s a really cool balance between the two in the graphic novel. When does The Old Guard 2 start on Netflix?
An exact date is still missing. The launch year for The Old Guard 2 so far is this year 2023 specified. If the developments are now taken up, Netflix should also be able to keep the start.
