After the Harry Potter films triggered a real fantasy hype in the early 2000s, a new movement in the genre emerged a few years later, which also found its origins in novels. That’s how it became Twilight saga Brought to the big screen by Stefanie Meyer, it shaped an entire generation of teenagers who from then on were divided into Team Edward and Team Jacob.
At the same time, the series triggered a wave of film adaptations of other young adult novels, ranging from The Hunger Games to Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments and The Destiny – Divergent. You can watch the first part of the Twilight saga on TV on Saturday evening.

Twilight is still an absolute phenomenon today
The love story of human teenager Bella Swan and vampire Edward Cullen met in Twilight – Till dawn a nerve whose phenomenon continues to this day. While the films brought billions into box office worldwide, they fared rather poorly with fans and the press. The first part, directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Dogtown Boys), received a rating of 4.1/10 points from the Moviepilot community.
Nevertheless – or precisely because of this – the fantasy hits are valid Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson who became mega stars overnight, are now an absolute cult and are currently being rediscovered by the next generation on TikTok and Co. The saga will soon be re-released as an animated series.
Cringe but cult: You have to see Twilight
From today’s perspective, when you watch Twilight you sometimes can’t really believe that the film was so successful. Because it’s not just some people who get into it unintentionally funny lines of dialogue launched (“Hold on tight, Spider-Monkey”), but also conveys a series of values that are actually absolutely unsuitable for young viewers. Edward is consistently controlling towards his girlfriend and stalks her for months – which Bella also finds extremely romantic.
Read as a self-deprecating product of its time, however, there is excellent and exciting entertainment here with memorable stylistic decisions (who could do that? Blue filter forgot?) and one Soundtrack, which went down in film history. Just for them Baseball scene you should tune in, which can be considered nothing less than a directorial masterpiece. Seeing the world stars Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson here again at the beginning of their careers is a unique experience. 4.1/10 points or not – the bar for the new series adaptation of the Twilight saga is damn high.
