Today, all sci-fi fans should get their money’s worth when they turn on the TV. An almost exactly four-hour long marathon shows first Chappie by Neill Blomkamp and then The Book of Eli with Denzel Washington. Both are completely different, but very worthwhile.
Today on TV: What happens in Chappie by Neill Blomkamp?
A crazy gangster couple kidnaps a discarded police robot and its inventor. He has pressed reset and started an AI experimentThe result is that the robot perceives the world around it with childlike curiosity and learns something new every minute. Which the two gangsters naturally use for their own purposes.
This is what The Book of Eli with Denzel Washington is about
30 years after the apocalypse, the world is ruled by bloodthirsty gangs and Eli (Denzel Washington) is in the middle of it all. The lonely wanderer travels through destroyed cities and gloomy landscapes, always heading west. In his luggage he has a mysterious and coveted book that could possibly have something to do with the survival of human civilization.

That’s why The Book of Eli and Chappie are worth watching on TV today
Chappie may have been a financial flop that put a real damper on the career of the highly acclaimed District 9 director. Nevertheless, the sci-fi film has exactly the same raw fascination. Technology, look and animation are beyond any doubt anyway and the two Die Antwoord artists Ninja and Yo-landi Vi$$er exude their very own charm.
At first glance, The Book of Eli looks like a fairly classic, but particularly dark, end-of-the-world film. The look is also impressive, but the whole gloom is blown away by again and again through surprisingly many entertaining and varied action sequences interrupted. We also get to see Mila Kunis, Allen Hughes and Gary Oldman.
If you want to see Denzel Washington in the cinema and experience even more action (even if it comes in a completely different guise here), there is probably no way around Gladiator 2. The first trailer already looks extremely promising and was very well received by many fans.
