Netflix launched its first German series in 2017, followed by Amazon in the same year. Since the launch of Disney+ in Germany two years later, we have been waiting in vain for an answer from the katzen group. Until now. In April, Sam – Ein Sachse is the first German original series from Disney+. Here you can watch the trailer that teases a promising thriller.

Sam – A Saxon is based on the memoirs by Samuel Njankouo Meffire

Sam (Malick Bauer) grows up as an unloved outsider. Suburban life in Saxony around the turn of the century has no place for a black boy. But Sam’s life is set to take paths that put him on both sides of the law and make him a sensation in a backward-looking country.

Sam has a lot that drives him when he decides to go to the police. On the one hand there is the end with the violent death of his father, which weighs heavily on him. On the other hand, Sam is looking for support, community, a place where he really belongs – a feeling that has so far been denied him. At first everything seems to be moving in the right direction, and the media can’t get enough of the first black police officer in post-reunification Saxony.

But Sam’s hopes quickly evaporate when he encounters rejection again. It doesn’t take long before he finds a new job and starts his own company. In order to ensure the company’s success, however, Sam goes astray that leads him to increasingly dangerous deals.

The story is based on the memoirs of Samuel Njankouo Meffire published on March 30 appear under the title “I, a Saxon”.

When is Sam the Saxon coming to Disney+?

The series starts on April 26 on the streaming service. It consists of seven episodes, all of which will be released at once.

Incidentally, the staff behind the scenes are raising expectations of Sam – Ein Sachse. Germany 83 maker Jörg Winger acts as the series’ showrunner and, with his agent thriller, which consists of three seasons, has shown a knack for presenting historical material from this era in a fresh and exciting way. Directed by Soleen Yusef (Deutschland 89) and Sarah Blasskiewitz (Ivie wie Ivie).
