The inaugural direct flight between Paris-Charles-de-Gaulle and Djanet, in the Great South of Algeria, landed early, this Sunday morning, December 18, in this oasis, with on board 64 first French travelers in love with the desert. It had been twelve years since this direct air link had been suspended, following the assassination of the Frenchman Hervé Gourdel, in Kabylie.
With our special correspondent Norbert Navarro
Djanet within wing range of Paris, it is now done. It is with punctuality that, for the first time in twelve years, the Air Algérie company has just inaugurated its direct connection, now weekly, between Charles-de-Gaulle airport and the oasis of Djanet. This pearl of the Algerian desert is known for its breathtaking landscapes of the Tassili n’Ajjer park, its canyons emerging from the ocher sands, its bewitching sunsets, the splendor of its night skies. Its rock landscapes have been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for 40 years.
This resumption of direct flights results both from the desire of the Algerian authorities to reconnect with past tourist flows from this region of the Great South of Algeria and from the marked warming of the Paris-Algiers relationship, since the visit ofEmmanuel Macron in Algeriaduring the summer of 2022, followed by the equally official one of Prime Minister Elisabeth Borneon the spot, two months ago.
64 French tourists were on board that night, determined to spend Christmas in the sands.
