After foot-and-mouth disease was detected in a herd of buffalos in the German state of Brandenburg, the zoo, animal park and children’s farms in Berlin were closed due to foot-and-mouth disease.
“IT WOULD BE A DISASTER FOR FARMERS”
Henrik Wendorff, President of the Farmers’ Association of the State of Brandenburg, said that if foot-and-mouth disease spreads in the country, it would be a disaster for farmers. “If there is an epidemic in a region, it is quickly taken out of commerce,” Wendorff said. “This has many financial consequences,” he said.
ANIMALS ARE PROHIBITED FROM ATTENDING THE FAIR
The Berlin state government has banned cloven-hoofed animals from participating in the agricultural fair to be held on January 17-26 to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
