The first case of monkeypox in mainland China was detected in the city of Chongqing in the south of the country.
In the statement made by the Chongqing Health Commission, it was stated that the patient, whose age and gender were not specified, was a passenger from abroad, and that he became ill while in hotel quarantine due to Kovid-19 measures.
The patient, who was confirmed to have monkeypox virus in the tests performed by the local health authority and the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, was recorded as the first case in mainland China.
In the statement, it was noted that the patient, who was kept in quarantine since the arrival of the healthcare professionals in the city, has not yet engaged in any social activities, so the risk of spreading the disease is low.
In China, the disease was detected in a quarantined passenger arriving from abroad on September 6 in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
