First Aid Kit receives Music Export Award: "Honored and happy"

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

The duo First Aid Kit, with sisters Klara and Johanna Söderberg, is awarded the government’s music export prize in 2022. The duo’s fifth album, “Palomino” settled the case – with it, the sisters proved that they are “a great export act”, according to the jury. – It feels fun, great fun! We are honored and happy. It’s a chance for us to look back on everything we’ve been a part of. We have had the great fortune to play a lot abroad, we are grateful for that, says Klara Söderberg to Efter fem. – Our music has taken us to big stages in the world, it’s huge for us, says Johanna Söderberg. High chart positions The album “Palmino” reached high chart positions and received good criticism abroad, emphasizes the jury, which describes First Aid Kit as “a blue-yellow version” of a musical tradition that is, in many ways, extremely American. First Aid Kit is the 26th winner of the government’s music export award, which is awarded every year to Swedish artists who have had success abroad. The duo often get questions abroad about why Sweden is so successful internationally as a country of music. – We usually answer that we think it is partly due to the fact that we really promoted culture in the country, at the culture school. But also that when we were little we got to go to museums for free, we didn’t have much money when we were little but that didn’t stand in the way, she says and expresses hopes that it will be like that in the future. Aid and Foreign Trade Minister Johan Forssell (M) emphasizes in a press release that the duo’s hard work contributes to “Swedish growth and creates curiosity and interest in Sweden abroad”.
