Fireworks are mistaken for gunshots: “Happens every day”

During the year, the number of shootings and explosions has been at a high level and at the same time private individuals have become more vigilant. Many alert the police about suspicious shootings, but which turn out to be firecrackers and fireworks.

– We get that all year round. It’s fireworks that are mistaken for shootings, says Ola Österling.

It is up to the municipalities to determine what type of fireworks are permitted and where they may be used. Firecrackers and fireworks with bangs as the main effect are generally prohibited and may not be used or sold without special permission.

“Have a thought”

Is there a point in refraining from firing rockets if you live in an area where there has been a lot of firing?

– We don’t want to urge the public to refrain from events that they usually do, but you can at least give a thought to what you say, says Ola Österling, press spokesperson at the police to P4 Stockholm.
