At the Longfonds they also see little point in burning wood now that gas prices are rising. “The question is whether that is cheaper at all. You can already see that the prices are skyrocketing,” says Harald Roelofs of the patient organization. Moreover, firing is unhealthy, according to Roelofs. “For everyone, but in particular for the 1.2 million Dutch people with a lung disease. Wood smoke causes them to suffer from shortness of breath, asthma attacks and sometimes can barely leave their home. So this development does worry us.”
