Due to a major fire that has been raging for a week now on the tourist island of Rhodes, some 20,000 people, residents and holidaymakers, had to leave their places of residence over the weekend. This evacuation operation was presented as the largest ever carried out in Greece. Some visitors have left, some are still struggling to find a flight and others are staying for a few days in shelters set up for the occasion, such as in schools or gymnasiums.
