By the time Sunday is over, it will have been a week since British apprentice bricklayer Jay Slater, 19, went missing in the Spanish mountains of Tenerife.

The heavy artillery of the Spanish police force, the Guarda civil, is now targeting small houses on a lonely farm in the mountains. It is located next to the place where the teenager’s mobile last gave away a position.

One of the firefighters who searched for the teenager in the Rural de Teno National Park is now coming forward and talking about the hunt.

    – It is very difficult to find people here, because of the ravines and the mountains. But the days pass and it becomes increasingly strange that he hasn’t turned up yet, says Ricardo from the Brigada Forestal rescue service to the Manchester Evening News.

Final party at “Papagayo Beach Club”

Jay Slater’s disappearance has attracted a lot of attention in the UK, and the amount of speculation about what happened to him has “complicated” the police investigation.

On Sunday, a video of Slater was shared on TikTok, in which he appears to be dancing shirtless, at one o’clock Monday night.

The festival he traveled to with two friends, NRG or “New Rave Generation” was on its third and final night with a closing party at “Papagayo Beach Club” between 9pm and 4am.

Several fake fundraisers in the family’s name have been started this week and a Slater’s Instagram is said to have been hacked by a mysterious logger.

    – They are sick in the head, writes Slater’s friend Rachel Louise Harg about the suspected hackers in the Facebook group.

“Help him down from the mountain”

Her fundraiser, which the family was behind, on Sunday received the target sum of SEK 399,000. The money must be sent to the family on site in Tenerife and among other things used for accommodation costs during the search, according to The Independent.

Slater’s father has issued a statement to the newspaper for the first time.

    – I just want my boy back, says Warren Slater, 58, and bursts into tears next to Jay’s older brother Zak, who is also participating in the search.

He then continues in a new television feature:

    – A nightmare, it has been a pure nightmare. I just hope someone helped him off this mountain. That’s all I want, for someone to help him down from the mountain.

    “A handsome lad from Lancashire”

Slater’s mother Debbie Duncan is also present in Tenerife. She is now questioning the Spanish decision to turn down British police offers to help in the search earlier this week.

    – I don’t know if it was because they took it as an insult. I really don’t know, she tells The Independent and continues:

    – They say they have enough resources to continue the investigation. I don’t know, I don’t know.

When asked how Duncan copes with the situation, she replies that she cannot cope at all.

    – The last few days have been terrible. I just need to get him back. He’s a handsome guy from Lancashire and he shouldn’t be missing in Tenerife,’ she told Mail Online.

    Celebrity detective enters

On Sunday, a celebrity detective made history. Mark Williams-Thomas, who worked both on the Madeleine McCann case, the three-year-old who disappeared from her bed and Nicola Bulley, who disappeared on a dog walk in 2023, has offered the mother his help in finding Jay Slater.

“A lot of speculation about what might have happened and if they give me full access and I’m there I will be able to say very quickly if his disappearance is due to himself or if there is involvement from a third party,” he writes in a post on X.

“I know I’ll get to the bottom of this in three days,” he concludes the post.
